This "T-Spooned" Ledaig single cask whisky from Tobermory Distillery was distilled back in 2011 and bottled in 2018. The whiskey has spent seven years at a 1st fill Port Wine Barrique and has been bottled at 56.4% cask strength.
In the scent you will find beautiful and heavy port wine notes mixed with delicious smoke elements. On the taste you get almost berry-like associations.
"T-Spooned whisky" is a term that refers to whisky that cannot be named after its origin distillery. The seller of a cask (distillery) may choose to add a teaspoon of foreign whisky to the cask being sold, which means that the purchaser by law (the independent bottler) can not use the distiller's name on the label. The addition of the few drops of foreign whisky makes the cask "illegitimate" even though the taste is fine unchanged. It has nothing to say about the taste of the whisky, and is only a formality.
Ledaig whisky produced at Tobermory Distillery on the island of Mull is known for its dirty and heavily-peated style. At the distillery, both un-peated and peated whisky are produced. The peated whisky has been named after the first and original name of the distillery, Ledaig. The name Tobermory is something that came later on, as the old distillery was reopened after being shut down for many years.
In the Scotch Universe Whisky series, you can experience hand-picked whiskys from all regions of Scotland - some smoky and stormy as a star collision, and some calm and balanced as the dark side of the moon. They do not use chill-filtering or caramel color, and all bottlings have a naturally high alcohol content. What the series especially distinguishes is the use of wine barrels. Often you will see bottles in the series stored on ex wine barrels; eg port wine, sherry, red wine, but also rum and whisky casks. There is a focus on special barrels and that is one of the things that make Scotch Universe Whiskey different.
