In 2001 this rum by Distillerie La Mauny was set aside, and 14 years later, Chantal Comte opened a small handful of former bourbon casks at the old distillery. What she found was an extraordinary rum with incomparable features, and the few barrels were set aside and subsequently placed in a steel tank for a full 18 months, after which the rum was bottled in April 2017.
As always with rum from Chantal Comte, no water has been added after the maturation, which gives an high alcohol percentage. Here we hit a total of 64.8% alcohol - one of the highest alcohol percentages from Martinique that the rum industry has seen.
The rum has a tropical bouquet and a fresh scent of ginger. In addition, candied notes of caramel and orange peel. Generally dominated by cedar, eucalyptus and tobacco. The taste is extremely complex and has a taste of bitter grapefruit and strong vanilla. Furthermore, sweetness of the sugar cane, and finally lemon peel. A totally crazy rum experience!
Only 1715 numbered bottles of this marvel have been bottled - a rum that caters to the rum geeks out there.
