The rum in this bottle comes from the small island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean. Among the distilleries on the island is the Savanna Distillery, which is currently one of the most interesting rum producers in the world. The distillery was established in 1948 and today they produces several different rum types.
Marc Darroze has visited the distillery several times, and on his recent visit, the Savanna distillery opened their warehouses for him. Marc selected an extraordinary batch of 12 year old rum, fermented and distilled on a molasses base. The rum was stored in 12 years on ex cognac casks on the island.
The tropical maturation that takes place in Réunion produces some very special notes in the rum. It smells of stewed apples. In addition, there are also cigar tobacco, dried flowers, beeswax. After a few minutes in the glass, heavier elements come forward; gingerbread and menthol. The taste is elegant and does not disappoint; good with tannin, rich, spicy and at the same time round.
Bapt & Clem's is an independent bottler from southwest France, specifically the Armagnac region. The man behind the company is Marc Darroze, who for 20 years has worked with the armagnac brand Darroze. Throughout his work with armagnac, Marc has found the joy of the world's spirits, including both rum, cognac and calvados. This joy has led Marc to develop Bapt & Clem's - a new and independent liquor brand named after his two sons, Baptiste and Clément.
